When to Apply

Accounting is at the heart of every company and essentially functions as the “measuring stick” for all business transactions. The school's primary objective for the accounting major is to expose students to the many facets of accounting. It provides accounting and business knowledge about practical and conceptual accounting and the use of accounting information for effective managerial decision-making.

The accounting major is designed to prepare students for professional careers in public, corporate, or governmental accounting.

Accountants work for corporations, nonprofits, government agencies, and small businesses. They create financial reports, review income and expenses, prepare tax documents, and ensure regulatory compliance. Some accountants even help track down financial criminals, while others take part in high-stakes investments.

Emphasizing a strong foundation in accounting theory, our program goes beyond the theoretical framework to ensure a comprehensive understanding and practical application of these concepts in real-world scenarios. We strive to foster a deep integration of fundamental accounting principles with hands-on experience, preparing our students to navigate and excel in the dynamic and demanding landscape of professional accounting.

Students graduating in accounting will continue to be in demand due to the need for thorough documentation of control resulting from more stringent federal regulations. Additionally, individuals will be needed who can analyze increasingly complex data. Accountants with professional certification (CPAs, CMAs, CIAs, and others) will enjoy the most career options and highest salaries.

CMI Accreditation at AIU's School of Business

Students specializing in Accounting will earn a CMI Certificate, showcasing their knowledge in financial reporting, auditing, and managerial accounting practices.
