5 Things to do for your first day at university

Joining university is a fun and memorable moment in many of our lives. As freshmen, you enter a whole new world of opportunities and exciting possibilities! It's important to ensure you have a good start that can help pave the way for a successful semester each year. Here is a quick list of 5 things you can do to get a head-start and have an amazing semester ahead!

1. Take a campus tour

The first time on a new campus can seem intriguing. Use your orientation opportunity to get a walkthrough of your campus and familiarize yourself with the common areas such as classrooms, study halls, dining areas, recreational centers, etc.

2. Know where your classes are

You don’t want to be the student entering 15 minutes late in the middle of a full class. A day or two before the beginning of the semester, take some time to find out where each of your classes is located around campus.

3. Join student clubs and activities

The best part about the university experience is meeting like-minded individuals and stepping out of your comfort zone. Joining a student club or organization is the best way to meet new students, build friendships and gain valuable experiences.

4. Get your textbooks beforehand

Ensuring you have your textbooks for all your courses helps you stay on track with your coursework and lectures. For an added bonus, use your breaks between classes to read up on the chapters before they are discussed in class. This will allow you to grasp the information better and help boost your academic performance.

5. Make connections

The most important aspect of attending university is the connections you make during your program. Interact with professors in your classes, and make new friends with other students. Keep in mind you are all new to campus, and now is the best time to step out of your comfort zone and introduce yourself!
